چکیده

A bacterial strain, designated CMJ-5(T), was isolated from a freshwater shrimp culture pond in Taiwan and characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Cells of strain CMJ-5(T) were Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile, yellow-pigmented rods surrounded by a thick capsule. Growth occurred at 20-35 °C (optimum, 30 °C), at pH 6.5-8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and with 0-0.5% NaCl (optimum, 0%). Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain CMJ-5(T) belonged to the genus Flavobacterium and was related most closely to Flavobacterium haoranii LQY-7(T) with sequence similarity of 94.4%. Strain CMJ-5(T) contained iso-C15:0 (37.5%), iso-C17:0 3-OH (13.4%), iso-C15:0 3-OH (13.1%) and iso-C15:1 G (11.2%) as the predominant fatty acids. The major isoprenoid quinone was MK-6. The polar lipid profile consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine and several uncharacterized aminophospholipids and phospholipids. The major polyamine was homospermidine. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 42.4 mol%. On the basis of phylogenetic inference and phenotypic data, strain CMJ-5(T) should be classified as a representative of a novel species, for which the name Flavobacterium squillarum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CMJ-5(T) (=BCRC 80405(T)=LMG 26890(T)=KCTC 23915(T)). Emended descriptions of Flavobacterium haoranii, Flavobacterium cauense, Flavobacterium terrae and Flavobacterium aquatile are also proposed.

Flavobacterium hauense sp. nov., isolated from soil and emended descriptions of Flavobacterium subsaxonicum, Flavobacterium beibuense and Flavobacterium rivuli.

A strictly aerobic, Gram-staining-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile, yellow-pigmented bacterial strain, designated BX12(T), was isolated from soil collected from the peak area of Wudang Mountain in the city of Shiyan, Hubei province, China. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain BX12(T) was most closely related to Flavobacterium subsaxonicum WB 4.1-42(T) (95.9% 1...

Recent developments in the taxonomy of the genus Flavobacterium

The number of species in bacterial genera is constantly changing, but let's consider how many validly named Flavobacterium species exist as of this writing. The "official" lists (e.g. http://www.bacterio.cict.fr/) must be considered with great care because they also contain those species that have already been transferred to another or a new genus within the family Flavobacteriaceae (Chryseobac...

Flavobacterium aquatile (Frankland and Frankland) Bergey et al., type species of the genus Flavobacterium.

The baaterium Flaobcterium aquatile (Frankland and Frankland) Bergey et al. was isolated and described as BaciUus aquatiis (Frankland and Frankland, 1889). The species was slected by Bergey et al. (1923) as the type for the genus Flavoberium. With the exception of studies by Gary (1950) the genus appears to have rceived very little systematic investigation. If the type concept of taxonomy is-fo...

Proposal of six new species in the genus Aureobacterium and transfer of Flavobacterium esteraromaticum Omelianski to the genus Aureobacterium as Aureobacterium esteraromaticum comb. nov.

Twelve strains placed in the genera Flavobacterium, Pseudomonas, and Aureobacterium, including soil isolates, were characterized taxonomically. On the basis of morphological, physiological, and chemotaxonomic data, as well as DNA-DNA hybridization data, we propose that 11 of these strains should be classified in the genus Aureobacterium as new combinations or new species, as follows: Aureobacte...

Flavobacterium ceti sp. nov., isolated from beaked whales (Ziphius cavirostris).

Three isolates of a Gram-negative, catalase- and oxidase-positive, rod-shaped bacterium, isolated from the lung and liver of two beaked whales, were characterized by phenotypic and molecular genetic methods. Based on cellular morphology and biochemical criteria, the isolates were tentatively assigned to the family Flavobacteriaceae, although they did not appear to correspond to any recognized s...
